Introduced in 1977, the Gantrai was the execution from an idea by Mr. Shigehiro, a famous Japanese mountain climber. Concerned with the safety of fashion conscious climbers who had started wearing normal trainers, he took the outsole from an ASICS® baseball shoe and married this to the upper of a normal training shoe! Thanks to his ingenious hybrid, climbers could now be safe and fashionable at the same time.
